NG Bailey, one of the UK’s largest building services providers, is working with VINCI Construction UK to deliver the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Services, for Network Rail’s redevelopment of King’s Cross Station.
The contract will see NG Bailey deliver the services in four parts. The first, through the installation of a new plant room, which will serve the entire station.
Secondly, work will start on the station’s new ‘Western Concourse’, which is three times the size of the current concourse area. Here, passengers will be able to enjoy new shops and restaurants, as well as improved access to services on the Underground, the new Thameslink station and domestic and international services at the adjoining St Pancras International station.
The third part of the project will see NG Bailey refurbish the adjoining ‘Western Range’ office block, which as a Grade 1 Listed building will be home to 150 station employees.
The fourth part of the project is a new site wide Customer Information, Security and Communication installation, which includes CCTV cameras, Customer Information Screens and Customer Help Points.
Tim Cunningham, operations director for NG Bailey in London, comments on the win: “We are delighted to be working on one of the City’s largest schemes. The redevelopment of the station is one of Network Rail’s most prestigious projects and one that we are proud to be part of.”
NG Bailey is currently engaged in the pre-commencement phase, with work already underway on temporary station facilities, to allow the re-development work to commence.
Chris Newton, NG Bailey’s acting chief executive, adds: “A contract of this nature demonstrates our strength in the marketplace, expertise in this sector and our capability to deliver first-class projects.”
King’s Cross is at the heart of the busiest transport interchange in the country. Over 47 million people use the station every year, and this number is expected to rise by a further 10 million within a decade. Over the next four years, King’s Cross will be transformed into a world class transport hub which can meet future demand and offer the best facilities for passengers.
